Bernina Artista 180 dongle/software issue
10:28 PM on Aug. 31, 2008

Does anyone out there have a Berina Artista 180 and is having problems with the software working with Windows XP?  I also have the issue with the computer not having a 9 pin serial port that I can plug the dongle into in order to run the Embroidery software.  Any ideas???  I love my Bernina but right now I'm not getting everything out of it that I used to be able to.

Happy quilting,
Michelle

Since your dongle issue was answered, that leaves the installation of software on the XP. Whenever you place your 180 software cd in the drive, go to "My Computer" On the drive that has the software loaded, right click on that drive. There will be an option to "Explore", right click on that option. Then you will see an icon for "set up, you want to left click on the "set up that has 'set up MFC application. You will see the option of "properties" at the bottom of the drop down screen. Click on "properties", then there will be a "compatiblitiy tab, right click on that tab, then you will see an option to run in 95/98 format. you will need to put a check mark in the box. then click apply and ok. then try to install. Should have no problem. Bette

What problems are you having with the software and what version are you using? I use the Artista and the Explorations software with Windows XP all the time. You can buy a USB to Serial conversion connection. Be sure it is actually a conversion connection, not just a cord with a usb on one end and a serial connection on the other. I have heard that Belkin makes one and others have found such a thing at Radio Shack. You should be able to get everything you need from your Bernina and the software. Let me know what your problems are and I'll try to help.
